Please note that the Sustainable Building Technology (SBT) Diploma is no longer offered. We now offer the Sustainable Construction Management Certificate and the Sustainable Design & Construction Management Technology Diploma.

What kinds of topics and skills did the SBT program cover that have been most useful to you?

Through the SBT program, I learned about mass timber systems like CLT and glulam, estimating tools, and key sustainability frameworks such as FSC/SFI certifications, LEED, and the Living Building Challenge. The program also included a sustainable materials course with a plant tour and a job-shadow experience at the company I now work for, which helped me build connections early on.

Can you describe a project you've worked on and how your SBT education came into play?

The photo was taken during a site tour in Revelstoke. Since the project was located on a ski hill, it came with constructability challenges, especially due to its complex geometry. Using BIM and IPD principles — both covered in SBT,  much of this coordination was handled in the office rather than on site, helping resolve mass timber, concrete, and steel interface issues early and keeping the project on schedule and on budget.

Where are you working now and what is your current role?

Currently, I'm working as a Senior Estimator in Mercer Mass Timber manufacturing.
